August in Marin: Vacation Mode for Buyers and Sellers
August is here in Marin, which means warm sunny days and outdoor activities at any number of our parks, trails, beaches or backyards. But many residents use the next two weeks (and the last half of July) as their last vacation hurrah of the summer. Check in with your friends or visit your facebook account. You’ll see a lot of people are anywhere but here, with Tahoe, southern Cal and Hawaii as popular destinations. Great for them, but also great for those of us who remain behind. Restaurants are easier to get into and parking at the market or most shops seems a little bit more available.
But what about the real estate market? Last time I checked this was supposed to be a monthly blog on the Marin home market. Given it’s August, those of you who read this know what’s to follow: in a word, “slow”. New listings in any of our twelve towns are scarce, with the morning update of Actives on MLS being very few, along with the Contingents, or those going into escrow.
Opportunities still remain for buyers though, as many of those you compete with are out of town. Sellers, same thing as you’ll notice there may be only a few other competitive listings in your price range. But if you want to pull your home off the market and wait until the week after Labor Day, there’s nothing wrong with that idea. We tend to head back into full swing in early September.
Any questions, let me know. Otherwise, thanks for reading and enjoy August wherever you are!
